I am a qualified primary school teacher with over 20 years’ classroom experience.
Graduating from Nottingham Trent University in 1994 with a B.Ed in Primary English, I worked in both state and independent schools. It was during this time that I really got to appreciate the difference that 1:1 tutoring can make to raising children’s confidence and belief in their own abilities.
When tutoring a new pupil, I always like to find out what their current understanding of a subject is. During this activity, misconceptions will often come to light that need addressing, as these may be hampering their progress. It is important for children to become fully involved in the process and gain ownership of their own learning. I like to agree targets with my pupils that we will work on together. Having a wide range of teaching resources enables me to tailor my lessons to the needs of the individual.
I have an extensive knowledge of the National Curriculum. In addition, I have a keen interest in different learning styles and use a variety of teaching methods to help engage the interest of my pupils. Over the years, I have taught many children with special needs – both 1:1 and in the classroom. The creative activities and experiences I offer have been an excellent tool in transforming children’s learning.
Throughout my career I have taken pride in seeing pupils I have taught progress, whatever their abilities. I am married with two children (one at primary school and one at secondary school), a puppy and a pony.
